The National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) was founded in 1979 and is dedicated to developing black digital authorship and distributing unique stories of the black experience in the new media age. Since 1991 NBPC has invested over $7 million dollars in iconic documentary productions for public television; trained, mentored, and supported a diverse array of producers who create content about contemporary black experiences; and emerged as a leader in the evolving next-media landscape through its annual New Media Institute and New Media Institute: Africa programs. NBPC also distributes engaging content online through its social media portal Blackpublicmedia.Org, an online home for enlightening black digital content and engagement.
Jacquie Jones, Executive Director _ jacquie-AT-nbpc.tv
Jacquie Jones is an award-winning writer, director and producer of documentary films. In addition to her filmmaking, she is a widely published critic of popular culture and was formerly the editor of the internationally respected journal, Black Film Review. Jacquie holds a BA in English from Howard University and an MA in documentary filmmaking from Stanford University.
Leslie Fields-Cruz, Director of Programming _ leslie-AT-nbpc.tv
Leslie Fields-Cruz coordinates and directs NBPC's development fund programs and supervises the acquisition, distribution and delivery of programs to the public television system. She has spent over ten years in the non-profit arts field, working primarily in independent media and youth theater. Leslie is a graduate of the New York Arts & Business Council's Arts Leadership Institute and holds an MA in Cinema Studies from New York University.
Nonso Christian Ugbode, Director of Digital Media christian-AT-nbpc.tv
Nonso Christian Ugbode is a writer, producer and web/media conceptualist. He works as the director of digital media for the National Black Programming Consortium in Harlem, NY where he oversees content and style for NBPC's Blackpublicmedia.Org website. He also manages in-house production of content and e-advocacy for NBPC. As a producer and filmmaker his recent works include "Colored Frames," a film about black painters directed by Lerone Wilson, currently in distribution and screening at festivals. He received his BFA in Film & Television Production at New York University.
Kay Shaw, Director of Strategic Partnerships kay-AT-nbpc.tv
Kay Shaw comes to NBPC having served as Director of Communications for the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, where she launched the organization’s website, coordinated its branding initiative, oversaw production all of the organization’s issue and event videos, and developed its in-house production facilities. Prior to joining LDF, Ms. Shaw built a reputation for successfully promoting and distributing black independent films including several award-winning PBS films, such as Camille Billops’ Sundance award-winning film “Finding Christa,” Marlon Riggs’ last documentary “Color Adjustment” and Stanley Nelson’s Sundance award-winning film “Black Press Soldiers without Swords.” She developed and implemented the theatrical release of Haile Gerima’s groundbreaking film “Sankofa,” which at the time was the highest grossing, self-distributed, black independent film in theatrical release in the country. In addition, she developed and implemented the theatrical releases of Peter Bratt’s debut film “Follow Me Home,” and worked closely with Kino International on Joe Brewster’s “The Keeper.” She later partnered with Brewster in Delta Entertainment, a video distribution company that specialized in independent films/videos by people of color. Ms. Shaw has a Bachelor’s degree from George Washington University.

Denise Greene has worked in both documentary and children's programming. As the producer/director of the final two episodes of Blackside's series, I'LL MAKE ME A WORLD (1999), Denise received the prestigious Peabody Award and National Association of Black Journalist Award. She began her documentary career receiving an Emmy Award for Individual Achievement in Research on Blackside's MALCOLM X: MAKE IT PLAIN. Before joining NBPC, Denise was producing segments for children's television. Her Black History Month segment for Nick Jr. was awarded a Parents Choice Award (2005). Denise completed her undergraduate studies at UCLA, received a Master's in Education at the University of Michigan and finished a post-grad program in Film at New York University.
Thabi Moyo, Assistant Director of the New Media Institute thabi-AT-nbpc.tv
Thabi Moyo is an emerging filmmaker from Jackson, Mississippi. She holds a BA degree in film with a minor concentration in education from Howard University. Thabi became the writer, director, producer of The Journey Awards, a black history theatre production that honored members of the community who had contributed to the progress of civil and human rights. More recently, Thabi completed her first credit as Associate Producer on documentary film entitled, “Prom Night In Mississippi”. A story that follows high school students in the small town of Charleston, MS, as the make plans for their first ever integrated prom. Prom Night was an Official Selection for the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Kagendo Murungi is a producer, arts administrator and community social justice organizer. She works within NBPC's programming department supporting partnership efforts, producer relations and the digital media project.

NBPC is one of five ethnic consortia funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). The Consortia function as developers, producers, and distributors of radio and television programming that appeals to diverse audiences and harnesses the creative talents of minority communities. The following organizations also award grants to producers for program production, training, exhibition, and outreach activities:
